Elise Nguyen

My name is Elise Nguyen and I am a second year majoring in Biochemistry and Cell Biology and minoring is Psychology. I currently help fundraise throughout the school year so that more people can have access to healthcare when our members travel to India. I joined MedICamp last year after hearing about the impact the travelling team had on so many people’s lives. MedICamp’s mission statement parallels with my own personal belief that people should be offered healthcare no matter their background. I wanted to help create that impact, and hearing that the money fundraised would go directly to the patients, I continue to be an active part of the organization. I look forward to seeing what our members can accomplish from the efforts leading up to the trip to India.

ANANT HARI

KRIS DENHOLM

My name is Anant Hari and I’m a second year biochemistry and cell biology major and global health minor here at UCSD. As someone who has both vacationed and lived in India in the past, I’ve witnessed firsthand the enormous impact the rampant poverty causes on the quality of healthcare and general standard of living. I joined MedICamp because it gives me an opportunity to both learn from and assist those in need. I’m excited not only to shadow a wide variety of health care professionals, expanding my perspective of this field on a global scale, but to actually help to provide health care access to an impoverished population. I look forward to meeting doctors of all specialties and backgrounds and to immersing myself in India’s vibrant culture from a brand new viewpoint.

Greetings! My name is Kris Buasudjai Denholm and I am a fourth year student pursuing a degree in the field of Neuroscience and Physiology at UCSD. My future medical path involves pursuing a career as an Anesthesiologist specializing in neuroscience. As an external fundraiser for MediCamp 16', it is an honor to be a part of an amazing program that strives to better the lives of individuals who are underrepresented and not fortunate enough to obtain the quality of health care they deserve. As an individual who grew up and spend more than half of my life outside the United States, I personally understand the lack of availability in the health care system in some foreign countries not as fortunate as the U.S. Being a part of this organization has allow me the opportunities to serve those who are underprivileged. As one of the members for the MedICamp 16' Traveling Team, it will be an honor to be traveling to India to work along side health care professionals. The experiences will certainly enhance my knowledge about medical practices, but i'm also excited to embrace the culture and experience what India has to offer!

LAKSHMI SOMASUNDARAM

Hello! My name is Zia Hussaini and I am a senior majoring in Biochemistry and Cell Biology at UCSD, with the aspiration of becoming an Orthopedic Surgeon. I Joined MedICamp last spring and a member of the traveling team for this year’s trip to India. What prompted me to join this organization was its vision of aiding the underprivileged in rural India by providing free healthcare and this was something that I genuinely wanted to partake in. By meeting new people and experiencing a completely different and rich culture through this year’s trip, I hope to become a better individual so that I may be able to better serve people when I do become a physician in the not so distant future.

My name is Lakshmi Somasundaram, and I am a 3rd year Physiology and Neuroscience student from Warren College. After graduating from UCSD, I hope to one day attend medical school and become a neurologist. I joined MediCamp because I really liked the underlying goal of providing medical treatment to those who may not have the time or money to seek help themselves. Without proper medical treatment, these people may not be able to work and provide for their families, and it is a privilege to help fundraise for this organization.
